What is reiki?

Hello. How have you been.

I am working at a medical university and teaching English to medical students and nursing students. They are basically studying western medicine.

However, these days, western medicine or convential medicine has been reaized to be not sufficient. Many medical doctors come to study different approaches to cure or treat patients from traditional approaches, such as surgery or medications.

Have you heard about complementary medicine or alternative medicine? Different from the traditional medicine, complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) has been getting popular among medical practitioners as well as many people who are interested in it.

I will show you one of CAM. It is called 'Reiki' in English. Do you know about Reiki? Please access the followin website:

International Center for Reiki Training

This Website says:

Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. It is administered by "laying on hands" and is based on the idea that an unseen "life force energy" flows through us and is what causes us to be alive. If one's "life force energy" is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, and if it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy. The word Reiki is made of two Japanese words - Rei which means "God's Wisdom or the Higher Power" and Ki which is "life force energy". So Reiki is actually "spiritually guided life force energy."

In Japan, we call it 'Ki' or 'Kiko' in Japaneese. I think you know it very well.

There are many kinds of CAM. Some are very useful and popular. If you are interested in CAM, please check it out in English. It would be very useful to communicate with people all over the world.

To know about Japan

Hello.

Do you know a lot about Japan? Do you explain about your country in English?

When I meet people from different countries, I often feel cultural difference among them. Perhaps each person may have a different character but I think all people have their own cultural background.

For example, we are all Japanese and speak Japanese to communicate with each other. So in class, we tend not to discuss or argue about what teachers say. However, in some other countries, it is very important to ask questions or say your own opinions in class.

The other day I found an interesting homepage which introduces Japan and Japanese culture.

How Japanese laugh?

Laughing or smiling is one of the most important communication tools in many situations, so you should understand how we laugh. However I am afraid you would disagree some points. If so, you should give your objections to them.

I hope for your next blog topics.

Cheers,

The movie 'Stand by me'

The song lyrics is as follows:

Stand By Me

When the night has come.
And the land is dark,
And the moon is the only
Light we'll see.

No, I won't be afraid,
No I won't be afraid.
Just as long as you stand,
Stand by me.

So, darling, darling,
Stand by me,
Oh, stand by me.
Oh, stand, stand by me, stand by me.

If the sea that we look upon
Should tumble and fall
Or the Mountain.
Should crumble in the sea,

I won't cry,
I won't cry,
No I won't shed a tear.
Just as long as you stand,
Stand by me.

So, darling, darling,
Stand by me,
Oh, stand by me.
Oh, stand, stand by me, stand by me.

What is your favorite song?

Cheers.
